Who We Are

Ruth Dickson sepia 1.jpg

Forty five years ago, Ruth Dickson became the very first Mayor of Stafford Borough Council and with the charitable donations she raised during her year in office, she founded the charitable trust that bears her name.

Since its foundation the trust has donated thousands of pounds in support of hundreds of deserving applicants throughout Staffordshire.  Applications normally come to us when all the usual avenues of support have drawn a blank and there’s nowhere else to turn to. Each application is considered on its merits and over the years the trust has responded very quickly to a wide range of needs including home refurbishments; mobility scooters; chairs and other equipment for the disabled; specialist IT hardware and software; as well as much needed family respite care and holidays.

All the trustees give their time free of charge with the result that apart from a few minor running expenses, the trust is in the enviable position of being able to distribute almost all of its annual income.

The charity is now chaired by Ruth's elder son Duncan. “My mother would be so thrilled to know that this small charity she founded, is still going from strength to strength over forty five years later. As the very first Mayor of Stafford Borough Council she was rightly very proud of her achievements in raising a substantial amount of money in order to help the people she realised were truly deserving.”
